Jesus Shall Reign
Home » Original Songs » Updated HymnsDescription
Christ deserves praise from every creature and every aspect of creation. This popular Isaac Watts text paints beautiful pictures of the effect Christ's reign has on all He has made and their response to Him. As a church, we need to speak of the greatness of Christ in ways that spark our imagination. To sing about the "early blessings" that infants cry out to Him gives us a shifted perspective on the cry of a newborn. Watts obviously looked for ways that God is praised in the every day life he saw around him, and as worshippers of the living and omnipresent God, we are encouraged by this hymn to see and hear His praise happening all around us.Lyrics
Jesus shall reign where’er the sunDoes his successive journeys run;
His kingdom spread from shore to shore,
Till moons shall wax and wane no more,
Till moons shall wax and wane no more.
Through Him shall endless prayer be made,
And praises throng to crown His head;
His name, like sweet perfume shall rise
With ev’ry morning sacrifice,
With ev’ry morning sacrifice.
Refrain:
Let ev’ry creature rise and bring
Peculiar praises to our King,
Angels descend with songs again,
And earth repeats the loud Amen,
And earth repeats the loud Amen!
People and realms of ev’ry tongue
Dwell on His love with sweetest song;
And infant voices shall proclaim
Their early blessings on His Name,
Their early blessings on His Name.
Blessings abound where’er He reigns;
The prisoner leaps to lose his chains,
The weary find eternal rest,
And all the sons of want are blest,
And all the sons of want are blest!

Nicely done. Nice rendition. Is it possible to get the sheet music for this?
This version is impressing , the guitars are excellent. Thank You, Eva
But the 2 original tunes leave this one for dead, if I may say so!
How can I hear this?
Todd,
I'm sorry about that - the recording must not have been copied over successfully when we launched the new website. I'll track the recording down and post it here in the next day or so.
Todd and others, I've located the recording and attached it again.
Hi, great stuff. Thanks for the music. Is there any sheet music for this song?
There is, Doug. I downloaded it from the old website. We've used this particular setting two or three times at my church and the congregation loves it!
