Jesus' Work Is Done!

Home » Original Songs » Updated Hymns

Description

This song emphatically states the case that we do not find salvation through our own works ("doings") but rather by faith in the works of another, namely Jesus. As the song says, "till to Jesus' work you cling by a simple faith, 'doing' is a deadly thing."
By grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast. - Ephesians 2:8-9

Lyrics

             (Show Original Wordings)
Nothing, either great or small–
Nothing, sinner, no;
Jesus died and paid it all,
Long, long ago.

Chorus:
Cast your "doing's" down–
Jesus' work is done!
Take His victor's crown–
Jesus' work is done!

When He, from His lofty throne,
Stooped to do and die,
Ev'rything was fully done;
Hearken to His cry!

Weary, working, burdened one,
Wherefore toil you so?
Cease your doing; All was done
Long, long ago.

Till to Jesus', work you cling
By a simple faith,
"Doing" is a deadly thing–
"Doing" ends in death.

Cast your deadly "doing" down–
Down at Jesus' feet;
Stand in Him, in Him alone,
Gloriously complete.
