I Will Follow You

Description

"I Will Follow You" is a great song of dedication. The desire of the believer's heart is to faithfully serve his Lord all the days of this life - and then on into eternity in His heavenly kingdom. This song has an original chorus that focuses our attention on the great theme of serving God not simply because He commands it but because He is also our friend.

Lyrics

O Jesus, I have promised to serve You to the end:
So be forever near me, my master and my friend;
I will not fear the battle if You are by my side,
Nor wander from the pathway if You will be my guide.

Chorus:
I will follow You all the days of my life,
I will serve You to the end.
I will follow You from this world into glory,
I will serve You forever, my master and my friend.

O let me hear You speaking in phrases clear and still,
Above the storms of passion, the murmurs of self-will;
O speak to reassure me, to chasten or control;
O speak, and make me listen, You guardian of my soul.

O Jesus, You have promised to all who follow You,
That where You are in glory, Your servants will be too;
And Jesus, I have promised to serve You to the end;
O give me grace to follow, my Master and my friend.

Words by John E. Bode (1816-1874) & David Ward. Music by David L. Ward.
