Greater

Description

Christianity is more than simply a set of facts that we come to agree with. It is more than a system of rules, regulations, or doctrines. A Christian is someone who has become captivated with something (realy something) of greater worth and pleasure than anything else they had known previously. As the parable of the Pearl of Great Value says (Matthew 13:45-46): "The kingdom of heaven is like a merchant in search of fine pearls, who, on finding one pearl of great value, went and sold all that he had and bought it." This captivation is so strong that it compels us to leave everything else behind - all of the other inferior loves that continue to vye for our affections - in order to know and experience this love more fully. Though we have tasted of His love, the Christian life is a journey to remember and return to this, our first love, as we struggle to put down the former loves that so enthralled us. May we contiue to pursue the all-satisfying love of the Lord and ask for His help to leave our idolatries behind.

Lyrics

Verse 1:
You complete every need my heart requires;
Sweeter still, overfilling my desires.
I have tasted love that's unsurpassed,
Still I look to things I know won't last.

Chorus:
Jesus, You are greater,
You're my satisfaction maker.
So I'll leave all my loves behind
For the treasure in You I'll find-
You're greater than it all.

Verse 2:
Overtake and awaken my illusions,
Captivate, dominate with Your affections.
Still my quest for all these lesser joys;
Mesmerize me once again by grace.

Bridge:
Better than all this world,
Endless delights revealed.
You gave up the love You knew
To make my affections new.
